Today Jaic and I took Séamus up to Portland for his 2nd ECHO. He did great, was nice and calm for the first half of it then started to fuss a bit, but the technician was able to get all the pictures he needed. It took maybe 20 minutes.
We had about an hour and a half in between the ECHO and the cardiology appointment, so we ate lunch and relaxed for a bit before heading to the next appointment.
In Pediatric Cardiology Séamus was weighed and had his vitals checked. He's up to 9lb 14oz and 21.5 inches long, growing like a champ! They also did a quick EKG which was a nightmare. He kept ripping the sticky tabs off and was pretty upset--he was ready for a feeding and was not happy being messed with :(
The cardiologist came in while I was feeding Séamus and asked a series of questions about how life has been with him the last four weeks. She was surprised to hear that he hadn't had any blue "tet" episodes and he doesn't tire easily during feedings.
His ECHO showed that there has developed quite a bit of muscle around the pulmonary artery which is causing more constriction. She decided that we shouldn't wait the originally planned 4-6 months, but that we should schedule the surgery for 1-2 months from now. She will bring Séamus' case to the board on Friday (either this week or next) and they will likely agree that he should have surgery soon and she will then work with the surgeon to schedule a date.
As hard as it is to hear that my baby will need surgery sooner than we originally anticipated, it is good that his heart will be fixed and we won't have to worry about him turning blue when he cries. With this surgery he will only need follow-up appointments once a year instead of once a month and we'll be able to move past the "waiting for surgery" stage of his life.

Like Job, I can praise God through the good times and through the hard times in my life. This is definitely going to be one of the hard times, but I know that God has put amazing family and friends in my life to love us and help us to get through this.
